Why a Handler Needs to Attend a K9 Handlers Course
Search, protection, and security dogs are vital assets for
businesses, law enforcement agencies, security firms, and other organizations.
K9 teams, however, are teams and the dog is only one element of that team. The
other element of any effective K9 team will be a highly trained and skilled
handler. Acquiring the skills to effectively manage a search dog isn't easy but
we offer a K9 handlers course that is sure to provide the skills you or your
employees need.
A canine must often be trained for months to become effective at
searching for drugs, weapons, or anything else. Security and protection dogs
must also be trained how to react to threats and how to dispense their duties.
The people handling the dogs must also be trained, though luckily it won't take
months on end!
We humans tend to pick things up more quickly. While it might take
months to train a canine, a K9 handlers course can impart skills much more
quickly. As smart as dogs are, and they are indeed very smart, we humans are a
heck of a lot more intelligent. This extra brainpower is also why dogs need to
be handled.
A dog has an extraordinary sense of smell. A dog can also be trained
to search for certain things using their nose. They won't, however, be able to
draw up a search plan, or be able to identify suspicious targets. Further, a
dog certainly can't arrest a person, though a well-trained dog can indeed
disarm and disable a criminal.
One of Universal K9's leading experts, Brad Croft, has this to say,
“A well-trained canine is a great asset, but it's a well-trained handler that
often makes the biggest difference. Canines are excellent at their craft, but
they do need to be managed, and also cared for.”
While canines are clever animals, they aren't self-sufficient. A good
handler must also learn how to care for their canine. That's another reason why
our K9 handlers course is so essential. A well-trained dog will require a
considerable investment of your resources, so you should make sure you are
providing the best care possible.
A K9 handlers course can teach handlers how to identify problems,
such as your dog becoming sick, and how to care for dogs. Besides, dogs are
man's best friend, and shouldn't we treat all of our friends well and with
care? So, make sure you and your employees are acquiring
the skills needed to handle a canine!
